Yes. Multiple vaccinations can be taken on the same day. There are no restrictions on the number of vaccines you can receive within the same day.
Annually. Each year, influenza viruses change slightly, making the seasonal vaccine used in the previous years ineffective. However, if you have gotten the flu shot late from the previous year, you may already take the updated variant of the flu vaccine upon release, even if a year has not passed yet (Example: Someone who received the 2023 Quadrivalent Flu Vaccine on December 31, 2023 may already receive the 2024 Quadrivalent Flu Vaccine on March 2024 upon release of the updated yearly variant).
Both Prevenar 13 (PCV13) and Pneumovax 23 (PPSV23) can be taken once in your whole lifetime. However, for Pneumovax 23 (PPSV23), it may be advised by your doctor to take this every 5 years if you have comorbidities.
No. Flu and pneumonia vaccines do not protect you from the COVID-19 infection. However, flu and pneumonia vaccines have been shown to reduce the risk of flu and pneumonia illness, hospitalization, and death.
Everyone 6 months of age and older should get a flu vaccine every year with rare exceptions. Meanwhile, people aged 2 – 64 years old can get a pneumonia shot (for Pneumovax 23 only).
Depending on the vaccine, some can still be administered even with exposure or ongoing infection. While it can reduce the severity of symptoms, it may not fully prevent the development of the disease. Consult with your doctor to determine if vaccination is appropriate for you.
For healthy individuals within the recommended age range, no doctor’s order is typically required. However, certain special populations, such as pregnant women or those with underlying health conditions, may require a doctor’s recommendation before getting vaccinated. Be sure to check with your healthcare provider to determine if this applies to you.
